Psychotherapy Services
Therapy is the process of true acceptance and genuine change
Ivan has been practicing psychology for 30 years. His career in the field of mental health started in Montreal with community organizations dedicated to supporting and housing people suffering from severe mental illness.
In 1986, he founded a Montreal Community Crisis Centre (TRACOM) where he worked as Director for 17 years while also doing private practice treating depression, anxiety and phobias.
Ivan moved to Truro, Nova Scotia in 2003, where he started the Crisis Response Service of the Colchester East Hants Health Authority and then became Manager of Mental Health & Addiction Services.
During those years, Ivan became interested in the field of mindfulness based intervention for managing stress and treating depression and anxiety. He trained with Jon Kabat-Zinn and senior teachers of the Centre for Mindfulness of the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, and with Dr. Zindel Segal of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. With a goal of integrating body and mind, Ivan also trained as a yoga instructor.
In 2006, Ivan began offering courses and workshops on mindfulness at different locations including the Colchester East Hants Health Authority, the Tatamagouche Centre, with the Atlantic Contemplative Centre in Halifax, and with Joyful Yoga in Truro.
In 2015, wishing to go back to full time clinical practice, Ivan accepted a position as Clinical Therapist at the Health & Counselling Service of St-Francis Xavier University in Antigonish and, in 2016, opened a private practice at Eastern Tides Acupuncture in Truro.
Ivan Drouin is a Registered Psychologist and member of the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP), of the Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia (APNS) as well as the Order of Psychologists of Quebec. He is a Faculty member of the Atlantic Contemplative Centre (ACC).
